As a member-led organisation, GM Community Led Homes has lots of experience working with a wide range of community groups.
We aim to provide advice and support to existing groups, helping them navigate the complex world of homebuilding. We also provide a place for individuals who are interested in community-led homes to connect with each other and form new groups in their areas.
How We Can Help
Forming or joining a group
Are you looking to start a new community group, or join one? Are you representing an existing group that would like to recruit new members? Start here by joining our mailing list and our cohousing network. We run regular events open to everyone and can help connect likeminded people across Greater Manchester. Accessing funding
We can check to see if your project is eligible for any financial support from various public and private sources such as the UK Government or the Greater Manchester Combined Authority and social or commercial investors. We can advise advise groups in how to access this funding on other ways to access the funding you need, and support you with any grant funding applications.
Getting the right people on board
They say it’s not what you know, it’s who you know, and getting the right people on board is key to delivery. We can help to get local stakeholders on board, whether that’s local councillors, planning authorities or other community groups. We can also assist with finding a site and identifying a viable model and business plan. We can connect groups with landowners, registered providers of affordable housing, and professionals in homebuilding such as architects and developers who value genuine community involvement.
The technical stuff
You don’t need a building qualification to develop community-led housing, but you do need to know where to go for advice and support with the technical elements of the build. Our team have years of experience in developing new homes and can help you with the technical stuff like planning permission, building control and project management, to ensure your build stays on track. We can also help you to appoint builders and suppliers and make sure you get value for money through any contractors you need to use.
